One Alloy, Two Critical Wear Parts

Liners and hammers sit in different positions in a crushing or shredding circuit, but they share the same wear challenge: repeated, heavy impact from feed material. Manganese Steel is the standard alloy for both because of its work-hardening property — the surface hardens progressively under impact itself, moving from roughly 200 HB as-cast to 500+ HB in active service, without the brittleness that a pre-hardened alloy would bring to a high-impact application.

Why Manganese Steel Over High Chrome Iron Here

Liners and hammers in most crushing and shredding applications face heavy, repeated impact rather than fine continuous abrasion — the wear mechanism Manganese Steel is specifically suited to resist. High Chrome Iron, while harder at rest, is more brittle under this kind of impact loading and is better reserved for applications dominated by fine abrasion, such as cement mill grinding. If you're unsure which wear mode dominates in your equipment, sending us a worn sample is usually the fastest way to confirm.
